The City of Wilkes-Barre requires commercial recycling of all business, institutional and governmental establishments located within the City limits as mandated by ACT 101. Recycling various items reduces the amount of waste going into landfills, decreases disposal costs, saves natural resources and lessens pollution risks. Each commercial, institutional and municipal establishment is required to obtain a recycling hauler of their choice and properly separate recyclable items from general waste/refuse. The City will request on an annual basis that each commercial, institutional and governmental establishment complete a recycling report and provide back up documentation from their recycling hauler regarding the total yearly amount recycled . Listed below are the 4 required items to be recycling in order to comply with the City of Wilkes-Barre’s recycling regulations and the Pennsylvania Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act of 1988 (Act 101). However, the City hopes you will expand your list of items to be recycled so we can continue to save the environment. See list below for additional recyclable items. |
